Zinc
The mineral zinc is not produced by your body, but you get it from your diet. Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction, the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails, and more. Where can you find zinc and what form of magnesium do we use in our supplements?

What does zinc do in your body?
Zinc plays a role in many bodily processes – in fact, all cells in our body require zinc. It's essential for building proteins, cells, and tissues, and for the normal functioning of the immune system.
How do you know if you have a zinc deficiency?
A zinc deficiency can be caused by (too much) exercise, stress, and chronic illnesses. Pregnant and breastfeeding women can develop a deficiency. Vegans and vegetarians also have an increased risk of zinc deficiency.
A zinc deficiency can be recognized by several symptoms, including:
- wounds heal poorly
- an irritated skin
- smell and taste differently
- fatigue, depression
- lower resistance
These symptoms may be attributed to other deficiencies or problems, so always consult a doctor if you experience them persistently or are concerned.
Which foods contain zinc?
Zinc is found in many different foods, but often in small amounts. Oysters are particularly rich in zinc, but other shellfish are also found. It's also found in red meat, chicken, legumes, nuts and seeds, dairy products, eggs, grains, and some vegetables.
How much zinc should I take?
The recommended daily intake of zinc depends on your age, gender, and personal situation, but is around 7 mg per day for an adult woman. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consume 9.1 and 11 mg of zinc, respectively. The safe upper limit for adults is 25 mg per day.
One capsule of Guud Glow contains 15 mg of zinc, one capsule of Guud Flow contains 7.5 mg of zinc.
How long can I take zinc?
Whether and for how long you can take zinc depends on your individual needs and personal situation. Zinc is recommended for temporary use. Too much zinc can also cause copper and iron deficiencies, which in turn can lead to anemia. If a particular supplement contains a lot of zinc, you'll also see that it contains copper. Long-term zinc consumption requires medical advice and monitoring.
Which zinc is best absorbed?
There are different forms of zinc, just as there are different types of magnesium. Choosing the right type of zinc is important, as it largely determines its absorption and whether your body can utilize the mineral effectively.
Zinc must be bound to another substance to be properly absorbed. It's as if zinc has a friend holding its hand to guide it through your body. Ideally, this friend is organic. This form of zinc is then called an organic (natural) zinc compound, rather than an inorganic (non-natural) zinc compound.
Organically bound zinc supplements are bound to an amino acid (a building block of proteins) or citric acid. These are compounds that occur naturally in our bodies. This allows zinc to be well absorbed by the digestive tract (it has a so-called "high bioavailability").
Organically bound zinc supplements are therefore a sensible choice, but this form of zinc also comes in several forms. This also affects its bioavailability and effectiveness.
Zinc and science
The health benefits of zinc have been scientifically researched and proven. Below are some of the studies and guidelines we based our research and development of our supplements:
