How's your sex life going? Are you having it regularly and enjoying it? That's fantastic. A healthy sex drive is linked to feeling physically and emotionally healthy, so you're probably feeling good about yourself. But... if your libido is a bit stale, we want to help. In this blog post, we'll give you tips to support your libido!
But first, what exactly is libido?
Libido is your sexual desire or drive. It's influenced by factors like your mental state, stress, and hormonal changes. It's normal for your sex drive to fluctuate throughout the month.
In women, libido is closely linked to their cycle, or rather, to the hormones that rise and fall throughout the month. Most women have a higher sex drive around ovulation. This makes biological sense because our bodies are intelligent—they know there's a high chance of pregnancy during that time.
But lifestyle factors also play a major role. Planning a date night? Use this list to plan your ultimate dinner date and… choose your own dessert!
Add this to your menu
🦪 Oysters
Oysters are said to boost your libido, but unfortunately, there's little evidence to support this claim. If you enjoy them, buy a few of these slippery shellfish from your local fishmonger and prepare them as an appetizer.
🍫 Chocolate
Chocolate is often used as a symbol of desire, and for good reason! Chocolate contains phenylethylamine and serotonin. These are thought to be mood boosters and can enhance sexual pleasure. And of course, eating chocolate simply makes you feel good. However, don't choose a salted caramel crispy version. It's best to buy high-quality dark chocolate.
🍓 Strawberries
Like oysters, strawberries have a long history as an aphrodisiac. In ancient Rome, the strawberry was a symbol of Venus. In France, there was once a tradition of giving newlyweds cold strawberry soup to help them through their wedding night. And how about chocolate-covered strawberries for Valentine's Day?
Strawberries are high in vitamin C , antioxidants, and zinc, which studies suggest can help boost your libido. If it doesn't help, it won't hurt!
🍉 Watermelon
Fancy a romantic picnic? Pack some watermelon for your partner! Watermelon contains an amino acid called L-citrulline, which is said to stimulate blood flow to the penis!
Pomegranates
Studies have shown that a daily glass of pomegranate juice can boost your libido. According to the study, men and women who drank a glass a day for two weeks had higher testosterone levels. Pomegranate is also packed with antioxidants, polyphenols, and vitamin C , and has strong anti-inflammatory properties.
🙅 Foods to Avoid
🍷Alcohol
Yes, we know. It might get you in the mood, but too much alcohol can impair your performance (especially for men), and it can also affect your ability to orgasm. Too bad. We're not saying you should abstain entirely, but stick to one glass of wine with dinner to keep things enjoyable.
🍟 Processed foods
Processed foods are never the best option, especially if you're looking to boost your libido. Because the food is processed, most of the nutrients are gone—including those that can be important for your libido.

What else can you do?
Food can boost your libido, but what else can you do?
- Boost your self-confidence: The way you feel about your body affects how you feel about sex. Eat a balanced diet and exercise to boost your self-esteem.
- Reduce stress: Stress can affect your sex drive. Women are especially prone to this. Reduce stress with yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation.
- Get enough sleep: Try to get enough sleep every night, and if that doesn't work, take a nap. Make sure you get enough minerals that help you maintain your energy, such as magnesium .
- Communicate with your partner: Discuss with your partner when you feel like having sex (because yes, this can also depend on where you are in your cycle). Communicate openly and regularly, and try to resolve conflicts as they arise. This will improve your feelings of intimacy, which in turn will lead to a greater desire for sex.
Everyone is different, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to boosting your libido. Experiment with food, embrace a healthy lifestyle, communicate well with your partner, and most importantly: keep things light. Sex should be fun!
