At Guud Woman, we love surfing. Being in the water and spending time on your board is the perfect way to de-stress. It's also a great way to disconnect and get back to basics. But what does surfing have to do with your cycle? We'll explain in this blog post.

Surfing can be a metaphor for your cycle. The different phases of surfing—lying on your board, paddling, popping up, and catching a wave—match your cycle perfectly. Here's how it works...

Resting on your board = the menstrual phase

When you're resting on your board, you're waiting for a wave. This is just like the days when you bleed. This phase is all about resting and listening to your body. Your hormones are at their lowest, and everything is focused on relaxation.

This is the phase—both during surfing and during your cycle—where you can recharge. It's the phase where you can take stock and make choices, knowing that a new wave could come at any moment. So while you're resting on your board, you can prepare for the next wave...

Paddling = the follicular phase

In the paddling phase, you're gearing up for the next big wave. You see it coming and know it'll be alright, but you're already starting to move. You feel your energy rising as you ride the wave. You're brimming with confidence. It's the moment you know you can do anything and achieve anything. During the follicular phase, your estrogen is on the rise, so it's all about renewed energy. Your to-do list is ready to be checked off. Let's go!

Popping up = the ovulation phase

Wow, wow! Standing on your board and catching a wave is the best feeling in the world! When you're on your board, you feel proud, confident, and full of energy. Popping up represents your ovulation phase, the time of your cycle when you feel your best. Your skin is glowing. Your confidence is through the roof. You feel like you can take on anything and anyone. This is when you shine! So go for that wave, you're a guddess!

The washing machine = the premenstrual phase

Being spun around by a breaking wave can be intense. This phase represents your premenstrual phase. You're being swallowed up by the wave, being tossed around, and that can be exciting, but also frightening. You might lose touch with what's happening around you. You might experience PMS symptoms like cramps, food cravings, acne, breast tenderness, bloating, and mood swings. During this phase, it's best to take it easy. Listen to your body. Trust that it's telling you what it needs.

Think like a surfer girl

We hope this surfing analogy helps you remember and understand your cycle better. Think of your cycle as the waves of the ocean. Ride the waves instead of fighting them. After all, the ocean, just like your hormones, can be a force! Listen to your body and be kind to yourself. Happy surfing, and if possible, enjoy your cycle!
