Inositol

Inositol is sometimes referred to as a B-vitamin (B7 or B8), but it is not actually a vitamin because your body can produce it on its own. Inositol plays a role in fatty acid metabolism, bile formation, and insulin function, among other things. Below, we'll tell you more about it

About inositol…
  • it is a substance naturally occurring in the body
  • It comes in different forms. The best known is myo-inositol.
  • it plays a role in maintaining blood sugar levels
What does inositol do in your body?

The form myo-inositol (which is most commonly found in nature) plays a role in fatty acid metabolism, bile formation, brain function and insulin action, among other things.

How do you know if you have an inositol deficiency?

Inositol deficiency is generally uncommon. If you are concerned, consult a doctor.

Which foods contain inositol?

There are several forms of inositol, the most common of which is myo-inositol. This form is mainly found in protein-rich products, such as fish, red meat, dairy, chicken, soy, and nuts.

How much inositol does Guud Flow contain?

One capsule of Guud Flow contains 200 mg inositol.

How long can I take inositol?

Whether and for how long you can take inositol depends on your individual needs and personal situation. Ensure you get enough inositol through your diet and supplement your diet with a supplement if necessary. Consult a doctor if you suspect an inositol deficiency and would like personalized advice.

Inositol and PCOS

Although this information has not been conclusively proven, and there is no official approved health claim for Inositol, research shows that in women with PCOS, people with insulin resistance and oligomenorrhea, (myo-)inositol can lead to improvement of symptoms.

  • PCOS is a common condition in women of reproductive age, characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, excessive hair growth, acne, and polycystic ovaries.
  • Research has shown that women with PCOS often have impaired insulin sensitivity. This can lead to high insulin levels, which worsens the hormonal imbalance associated with PCOS.

Research suggests that inositol, particularly myo-inositol, may be a supplement for women with PCOS as it may help improve insulin resistance and normalize insulin levels.

What type of inositol is used in the supplements?

In Guud Flow we use different forms (racemate or racemic mixture):

  • Myo-inositol (MI): This is the most abundant form of inositol in the body and has several functions, including regulating insulin sensitivity, cell membrane function, and signal transduction.
  • D-chiro-inositol (DCI): This is a derivative of myo-inositol. It plays a role in insulin signaling and the regulation of glucose metabolism.
