Why It's Great During the Follicular Phase of Your Cycle

During the follicular phase, when your body is recovering from menstruation and preparing for ovulation, you might crave dishes packed with vegetables. Broccoli is a favorite during this phase because it's packed with essential nutrients like vitamin C , vitamin K, folate, calcium, and iron . Plus, the broccoli stem contains a substance called DIM (diindolylmethane). This healthy substance contributes positively to estrogen balance. Studies also suggest that DIM may protect against hormone-dependent cancers like breast and prostate cancer and may help reduce PMS and menopausal symptoms, although further research is needed.

Ingredients

  • 1 large broccoli
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 4 anchovy fillets, in oil
  • 2 knobs of butter
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 350 grams of orecchiette
  • 150 grams of Parmesan cheese

Preparation method:

  • Step 1: Cut the broccoli into florets from the stem. Peel the broccoli stem and finely grate it.
  • Step 2: Place a non-stick pan on the heat, melt a knob of butter and fry the garlic for about 1 minute.
  • Step 3: Add the grated broccoli, anchovy fillets and chili flakes to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Step 4: Cook the orecchiette according to the instructions on the package and add the broccoli florets to the water during the last 4 minutes.
  • Step 5: Drain the pasta and broccoli and mix everything together in the other pan.
  • Step 6: Season with salt, black pepper, the remaining butter and Parmesan cheese.
