"Less mood swings thanks to Guud woman:" Introducing Guud Ambassador, Fien

Many women suffer from mood swings. But very few know that you don't have to just take it. Are you nervous, irritable, emotional or just not feeling well around your period? Blame the hormones. Guud Ambassador Fien also suffered from it. Read on to see what she did to avoid it

For a large part of your life you have your period every month. But we actually know very little about what it does to you. A shame, because the hormones of your menstrual cycle determine a lot in your body: how you feel, sleep, and perform for example.

Fien: Mood swings, nervous, irritated and emotional

Before she got to know Guud Woman, Fien had a lot of trouble with her period. She had her period every month, but things still didn't go well: “A few days before my period started, I was always very nervous, irritable and emotional. I could always predict exactly when my period would start, because I suffered from significant mood swings.”

Do you feel like that too? Learn more about how your cycle affects your mood here.

Mood swings around your period?

Many women suffer from mood swings. But even though they are common, they aren’t normal!

Hormonal fluctuations during your menstrual cycle may cause some issues. Before you menstruate, your female hormones such as estrogen and progesteron drop suddenly, which make you more susceptible to experience mood swings or other hormonal issues.

Progesterone ensures that you become calm and relaxed. And because your progesterone rises after ovulation, you often sleep better and feel good. But towards the end of the premenstrual phase, when estrogen and progesterone suddenly drop, you can experience symptoms such as severe mood swings. If it is so bad that it affects your daily life, you could be suffering from PMS.

The premenstrual syndrome, abbreviated PMS, is a collective term for various symptoms that you can have around your period. You may have physical and mental symptoms such as mood swings, sore breasts, binge eating, cramps, anxiety, acne, headaches or bloating. Read more about PMS here.

You also sleep worse close to your period, which in turn makes you more irritable. You can read more about this in our blog Sleep and Cycle.

Balance your hormones with our supplements

“By consistently taking all of Guud's supplements, I feel a lot better. My muscles are stronger and I sleep much better. I also notice that my period is better, and I suffer less from mood swings.”

Fien takes our supplements and has learned a lot about her body in the meantime. The most important? “It was very enlightening to learn that there are four different phases in your menstrual cycle. It really helps if I use this when planning. For example, if I have to do something that requires more energy, I schedule it in the first two weeks after my period.”

Fien talks about the four phases of the menstrual cycle, what does that mean?

Your menstrual cycle consists of 4 phases: the follicular phase, ovulation phase, premenstrual phase and menstrual phase. And at each stage, your body produces different hormones, making you feel different each time. Your body also has different needs during each phase. Read more about it in our blog: Living according to your cycle.

How do the supplements improve my muscle health?

Fien said that her muscles are healthier thanks to our supplements. She's talking about Guud Vibes, our supplement with magnesium and vitamin B6.

Magnesium plays an important role in relaxing the muscles. So, it can help with stiff muscles after exercise. A magnesium deficiency can also lead to muscle cramps. Magnesium is good for your muscle strength and muscle endurance.

It is also good for your mental health. If you have a deficiency, there is a higher chance that you will experience depressed or sad feelings. Guud Vibes contains the perfect combination of magnesium and vitamin B6, which helps fight fatigue and maintains your energy.

How can you sleep better if you take supplements?

There are minerals and herbs that can help you sleep better. An important and safe mineral that helps you sleep better is magnesium.

Magnesium helps regulate cortisol, the stress hormone, and helps produce your sleep hormone melatonin. If you take magnesium, the production of the stress hormone decreases, so that you sleep more deeply. Think of it as a non-harmful sleeping pill. 😉

Our Guud Vibes supplement contains magnesium from algae (Aquamin), magnesium citrate and bisglycinate. Magnesium is often sold as magnesium oxide, which is difficult for the body to absorb and causes many stomach and intestinal problems.

The body absorbs magnesium citrate and magnesium bisglycinate (naturally bound magnesium forms) better. This gives better results, and you also avoid the risk of stomach and intestinal problems. Magnesium Citrate and Bisglycinate are used in high quality magnesium supplements.

Why do I have mood swings? And what can I do about it?

It’s all about the hormones, baby...

Hormones are important for your mood. You are probably familiar with the love hormone oxytocin, but hormones can also be serious culprits. If your hormones fluctuate extremely, you will soon have to deal with mood swings.

During your cycle, your estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate. This can create significant mood swings. Some women are more sensitive to this than others.

Estrogen reaches its peak before ovulation. When estrogen cannot leave the body in the second phase of your cycle, because your liver is breaking down other things such as (alcohol, caffeine or refined sugars), estrogen is put on the waiting list and stays in your body. This creates a hormonal imbalance, better known as estrogen dominance. Which means that your estrogen levels stay fairly high compared to your progesterone levels, resulting in all kinds of complaints.

Do I always have to take the supplements?

We recommend taking supplements daily for 3-6 months for best results. Our supplements are not a plaster on a wound, but an extra addition to a healthy and balanced life. Think of it as part of your lifestyle. Once you notice that your complaints have disappeared, you can take certain supplements cyclically (namely during the second half of your cycle to avoid complaints).

However, your needs can change throughout your life. For example, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, your body has different needs – so keep this in mind. The Guud Flow, Inside and Vibes are then strongly recommended to support not only your health but also that of the growing baby.
